Like so many of you, I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Professor Jason Arday.
Jason was more than a judge for the Multicultural INSPIRE Awards. He was someone I respected enormously, someone who inspired me personally and, most importantly, someone I was fortunate enough to call a friend.
I first met Jason in 2023, during my time as CEO of another awards organisation. From that point onwards, we would speak occasionally, often at moments when challenges presented themselves.
When I stepped down from my former role in 2024 (those of you who know, know), Jason and I spoke for around 30 minutes. In all honesty, I wasn't in the best place at the time. Jason listened, encouraged me and uplifted me. That conversation meant more to me than he probably ever realised. He then sent me a voice note of encouragement, something I will now cherish forever. Even now when I listen back to it, it brings tears to my eyes.
So, when I created the Multicultural INSPIRE Awards, I wanted the judging panel to be different. I personally hand-picked people who had inspired me.
Jason was undoubtedly one of those people.
When I asked him to become a judge, there was no hesitation. His response was:
"I am in, I will support you 1000%."
And that was Jason.
Kind. Loving. Caring. Thoughtful. Encouraging. Passionate about people and passionate about uplifting others. Jason often said his aim was to weave love into the world and, in all honesty, that was my experience with him. He sewed love into me and the work I did.
He didn't just put his name alongside the INSPIRE Awards. He gave us his time.
He voluntarily spent hours reviewing the stories and achievements of people from across our communities, helping us recognise individuals who may otherwise never receive the recognition they deserve. For someone who achieved so much himself, Jason remained deeply committed to celebrating the achievements of others.
For those fortunate enough to know him, it was his humanity that made him special.
I won't share the details of our latest exchange but I am incredibly grateful that I had the opportunity to tell Jason that I was proud of him and that I loved him. I find comfort that he knew this.
So, on behalf of myself and the entire INSPIRE Awards family, I want to publicly say thank you.

- Thank you for helping us celebrate and uplift others.
- Thank you for your encouragement.
- Thank you for everything you did for our communities.
- And, personally, thank you for inspiring me.
Your contribution to the Multicultural INSPIRE Awards will always form part of our story and your absence will be felt immensely by the entire INSPIRE family.
Our love and thoughts are with Jason's family, friends, colleagues and everyone whose life he touched.
