INSPIRE Awards Announces Black Women Rising as Official Charity Partner for 2025

The INSPIRE Awards is proud to announce its official charity partner for 2025, Black Women Rising, a pioneering UK-based charity founded by Leanne Pero MBE.

Black Women Rising supports and empowers women of colour affected by cancer through peer support groups, awareness campaigns, and wellbeing initiatives. The charity has become a vital platform in breaking taboos around cancer, creating safe spaces, and amplifying the voices of women whose stories too often go unheard.

The partnership holds a particularly personal meaning for INSPIRE Awards Founder & Chief of Vibes, Dr. Tru Powell, who shared:

“Having lost two of my four Black maternal aunts to cancer, I’ve seen first-hand the devastating impact this disease can have. If they’d had access to the powerful sisterhood that Black Women Rising offers, I know they would have found strength and community in abundance.”

From the very beginning of this year’s awards journey, Tru reached out to Leanne to explore ways to support her mission and shine a light on the phenomenal work she and her team are doing. Earlier this year, Tru also had the privilege of meeting several women from the Black Women Rising community and was deeply inspired by their courage, resilience, and unwavering positivity.

This year’s awards, sponsored by Arden University and e.on, boast categories specially devoted to highlighting those young people who are making a difference and those who work in senior leadership. The ‘Rising Star’ award is designed to highlight those young people who have made a significant impact in their industries and continue to inspire others. The ‘Outstanding Contribution to Leadership’ award has been introduced to celebrate those who excel in their roles and demonstrate exceptional leadership.

The winners have now been chosen by an expert judging panel of entrepreneurs, community leaders, and household names. This year’s line-up features Cambridge University Professor Jason Arday, international speaker and author Simon Alexander Ong, and influencer and mental health advocate Luke Vernon. They will be joined by cultural icons including singer and TV personality Jamelia, BBC executive Faron McKenzie, Ammo Talwar MBE of Punch Records, and Brenda Edwards from the Self Belief Trust. Business leaders such as Shaa Wasmund MBE, Paul Faulkner, David Atkinson, and the Forbes Family Group also bring their expertise, alongside diversity and inclusion champions Annisha Taylor, Melissa Berry, Sheetal Sanghvi, and Gurpri Bains. Completing the panel are inspirational community voices Safiyya Vorajee of The Azaylia Foundation, cancer advocate Ameena Westwood, entrepreneur Frankie James, and Dr Zaheer Ahmed MBE, ensuring every nomination was judged with integrity, care, and vision.,

The winners will be announced on November 22nd in Birmingham.

Outstanding Contribution to Social Change Nominees

Abimbola Oliyide	Through accessible mentorship, free global events, and life-mapping curriculums, she has built pathways for young, marginalized, and misunderstood voices to find their seat at the table—and build their own. Abimbola’s work is especially groundbreaking in how she integrates faith, purpose, psychology, and strategic innovation. Her prophetic curriculum, inspired by her book Finding the Equilibrium.
Alex Barnes-Ross	Vote for Alex because he bravely speaks out against coercive abuse in groups, despite facing hate and threats. While many ex-Scientologists are too traumatised to go public, Alex fearlessly represents them, carefully researching and exposing systemic abuse. He champions legal reform to protect people from coercive control in any group—religious, professional, or social. Selfless and courageous, Alex puts his own safety aside to fight for justice and amplify unheard voices.
Alison Delaney	Vote for Alison Delaney for creating lasting change through her “Take Flight and Fly High” programme, supporting incarcerated mothers and their babies. With empathy and lived experience, she helps rebuild confidence, heal relationships, and break cycles of trauma and reoffending. Alison’s work transforms lives and empowers vulnerable women to create brighter futures.
Andrew Fuller	Andrew Fuller works on the frontlines in schools and communities, tackling tough issues head-on. Using his social media, he calls out harmful behaviours and challenges complacency. His honest approach connects with youth, sparking crucial conversations about safety, identity, and resilience. Andrew’s impact is clear in the lives he’s changed and the futures he’s helped shape.
Annmarie Lewis OBE	Annmarie Lewis OBE is a trailblazer in criminal justice reform and inclusive leadership. With over 30 years’ experience, she mentors leaders and drives systemic change. As a Leadership Specialist and Criminologist, she shapes cultures across sectors. Through Just Leaders, she challenges norms and advances justice-led leadership. A speaker, researcher, and advisor, Annmarie’s impactful work transforms policy, practice, and lives, making her a deserving award recipient.
Chantel Daniel	Chantel is redefining ethical business in food and drink through The Good Coffee Project, honoring Black and Caribbean heritage with global excellence. She’s secured key partnerships, pioneered blockchain pilots, and built direct farmer ties across Africa and Nicaragua. Entering procurement pipelines and accelerator programs, Chantel’s impact gains national attention. Her work blends social value, culture, and commerce, making her a model for ethical entrepreneurship.
Deo Kato	Deo Kato ran over 12,000km from Cape Town to London, tracing human migration from Africa and challenging racist “go back home” narratives. Despite facing imprisonment and illness, he showed incredible resilience and used this journey to create a global platform advocating everyone’s right to belong and contribute. Building on his “381 Days: Running for Justice” campaign, Deo inspires vital conversations on race, history, and dignity. His unique activism drives meaningful change.
Divina Stirling	Divina Stirling creates lasting change as a compassionate youth offending officer. Driven by a belief in second chances, she sees potential beyond labels and statistics. Divina dedicates her time and energy to guiding young people away from crime toward brighter futures. Her impact extends far beyond her role, making her work truly deserving of recognition and celebration.
Dr Charlene Makita	Dr. Charlene Makita is a visionary advocate and entrepreneur driving change at the intersection of beauty, health, and justice. Through her brand, Natural Aura, she redefines natural hair care while raising awareness about harmful chemicals affecting Black women and children. In collaboration with World Afro Day, Charlene campaigns against hair discrimination and advocates for legal reform in the UK and South Africa. Her platform, Grow with Intent, empowers Black entrepreneurs to thrive.
Faron Paul	Faron Paul’s knife surrender campaign has removed hundreds of weapons from UK streets, preventing harm and saving lives. He meets at-risk youth with empathy and timely support, offering one-on-one help and public talks that create trusted paths away from violence. Faron also supports grieving families and raises awareness of root causes like poverty and trauma. His frontline work drives both immediate safety and lasting change across the UK.
Jacy Stewart	With 25+ years of social impact experience, Jacy Stewart is a powerful force for good. She champions diversity and inclusion, especially for Black and marginalised leaders. Her work spans local to international programmes, blending strategy, education, and social enterprise to drive lasting change. Jacy’s proven track record, leadership, and passion make her a standout candidate for anyone who values equity, impact, and meaningful investment. Vote for Jacy!
Jamil Shabir	Jamil Shabir empowers young people through The Young Leaders Club, offering mentorship and real-world opportunities often missed in traditional education. By connecting youth with entrepreneurs and uniting business leaders to support them, he’s transforming futures. His long-term commitment and hands-on approach have improved life chances and career paths for many. Jamil’s impact is real, lasting, and visionary, making him truly deserving of your vote.
Jestina Duncan	Domestic abuse is a very serious and widespread crime which is affecting many people mentally and emotionally. Jestina has dedicated many years of her time to support women in her community & is very passionate about her work. Jestina has also offered many free services to be able to reach as many women as possible. This deserves a vote.
Khalia Ismain	Khalia is a systems-changer who creates lasting, scalable solutions. As the founder of Jamii, she’s opened doors for thousands of Black entrepreneurs and influenced major institutions, including one of the UK’s largest banks. Her work has boosted trust in financial systems (from 40% to 84%) and driven millions in investment to underrepresented founders. Khalia is reshaping the narrative around Black entrepreneurship and proving the value of sustained support for underserved markets.
Lady Unchained	Lady Unchained is a poet, award-winning broadcaster, author, mentor, and speaker using her talents to drive positive change. She works in prisons and women’s centres, helping individuals harness creativity to transform their lives. Through her platform Unchained Nights, she uplifts artists with justice system experience, creating space and opportunity. Passionate about impact, she’s committed to sparking wider social change through every medium she touches.
Mubeen Hussain	Mubeen Hussain is a compassionate leader whose work spans from supporting Grenfell survivors to leading national programmes at Islamic Relief UK. He uplifts refugees, empowers women, tackles food insecurity, and breaks mental health taboos with suicide prevention training in ethnic minority communities. Grounded in dignity, faith, and justice, Mubeen builds trust where systems fail. Vote for Mubeen, a voice of hope, resilience, and real change.
Olayide Olatokunbo Bankole	Olayide tirelessly supports families with SEND needs, reviewing EHCPs, attending school meetings on her own leave, filling forms, and writing letters. She checks on parents’ well-being, funds meetups, and offers 24/7 support. Her kindness and dedication have helped many open up about autism and feel less alone. Thanks to her, families once hiding their children now embrace inclusion, both in the community and church. All her work is self-funded and deeply impactful.
Paz Heer	Paz Heer transforms ordinary ingredients into extraordinary edible art. From self-taught baker to TEDx speaker, Paz’s journey shows the power of passion and creativity. Their cakes inspire others to see beauty in the everyday and believe in limitless imagination. Through storytelling, mentorship, and artistry, Paz empowers people to embrace their uniqueness. Rubie Marie	Rubie bravely shared her story of being trafficked and forced into marriage at 15. Despite her past, she remains kind, determined, and fights to protect others. Through education and modeling, she rebuilt her confidence and now runs ShylaNova Yoga while advocating against trafficking and abuse.
Sabrina Hewitt	Sabrina Hewitt embodies a powerful blend of lived experience, academic excellence, and practical impact in tackling one of the UK’s most urgent safeguarding issues. As a survivor of child criminal exploitation, she transforms trauma into positive change. Her Master’s in Modern Day Slavery, Human Trafficking & Organised Crime from St Mary’s University deepens her expertise, enabling her to deliver highly effective, real-world training for frontline professionals.
Sharon White	A vote for Sharon White is a vote for real, lasting social change. She champions underserved children and young people, using data and collaboration with local partners to create meaningful impact. Alicia is a vocal advocate against systemic racism in maternity services, pushing for culturally sensitive bereavement care. Her work is evidence-based and community-driven.

Hana Fitzpatrick	Hana overcame immense challenges, including being kicked out of 10 schools, bullying, homelessness, and exploitation. Now an inspiring Youth Mentor, she supports young people facing similar struggles. Hana aims to open a youth residential home and start a business for young offenders. Jordane Skye	Jordane Skye, at just 24, is a modern-day trailblazer. Through STL Marketing, she’s not only delivering results for clients but also inspiring young, Black entrepreneurs to believe in their ideas. Her journey began by helping her brother with social media, doubling his event attendance and revenue. She now helps others unlock their potential with strategic marketing. Jordane’s work ethic, authenticity, and community spirit set her apart, making her a true force for change.
Juvani Mupene	Juvani, born in Congo and arriving in the UK without knowing English, uses his journey to inspire young people. Through RichYoung Minds, he helps others gain confidence, launch businesses, and connect with influential figures. With hard work, vision, and faith, he’s turned challenges into purpose. Kessia Davies	Kezia Davies, 25, is a powerful example of resilience and transformation. Having overcome grooming, criminal exploitation, and adversity in the care system, she is now dedicated to self-development and positive change. Khamani Edwards	Khamani Edwards, 17, is a resilient young entrepreneur and founder of KJ’s Craft Time. During the lockdown, he built a thriving business offering educational craft boxes, including a special range for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). Living with Dystonia, Khamani turned personal challenges into a mission for inclusivity, making arts and crafts accessible for all. His passion, innovation, and commitment to social impact make him a remarkable young leader, building a movement for creativity and education.
Kristian Wilson	They built a company called BrumsUpAndComing and have been amazing at helping to build up artists. Through their hard work and dedication, they’ve reached where they are now and truly deserve the award. They inspire youth to believe they can be better and do better.
Lashonte Royal	Lashonte should be nominated for her outstanding contributions to the social work community through her platform Dear Social Worker on Instagram. She provides support, advice, and education to social workers at all stages of their careers, creating a safe space for reflection and resilience. Since qualifying, she has demonstrated dedication to person-centered, strengths-based support, empowering individuals and families. Lashonte’s work inspires positive change and strengthens the social work profession.
Mahaliah Edwards	Mahaliah Edwards is redefining the classical music scene as a versatile performer, educator, and advocate. Her ability to bridge genres and engage audiences sets her apart. As a mentor, she nurtures talent with empathy and vision, while using media platforms to amplify diversity and access issues in the arts. Voting for Mahaliah means supporting excellence, impact, and a trailblazer shaping the future of classical music and beyond.
Michael Mensah Tetteh	Michael is transforming lives through coaching, mentoring, and employability programs. He empowers individuals across the UK to build confidence and resilience and guides youth away from gang lifestyles through projects like Stronger Futures and Spaces Made Safer. By providing employability sessions where he teaches how to write CV’s and perform well in interviews, he’s significantly improved job search success for many in Walthamstow. Mystikle Blue	Mystikle Blue is a trailblazer, breaking barriers and rising as a star. Nominated for multiple awards, featured on BBC Sports, Sky Sports, Channel 4, and the 2022 Commonwealth Games, she’s achieved so much with no management or marketing team. Humble despite her success, she motivates others, particularly female DJs, to push forward in a male-dominated industry. Naomi Elliott	Naomi has been knocking at the door of entrepreneurship for years, building businesses self-employed using her experience in trauma. Both lived experience and studies have informed her and now she chooses to apply what she’s learnt to protect our data and information through collaborating with others and building networks. With TV and Radio appearances, she has shared her personal story and enables others to do the same.
Natalie Diana Busari	Natalie Diana Busari is the founder of The Nerve of My Multiple Sclerosis. Her advocacy has impacted people with MS in Nigeria, Ghana, and London’s Black community. Living with MS herself, she selflessly fights for those without a voice. From building support systems in Nigeria to expanding outreach in Ghana and breaking stigma in London, Natalie engages leaders to drive real change. Her work brings healing, awareness, and hope to those affected by MS.
Nicolla Jae	In July 2020, after her Grandad was hospitalised and later passed away near her birthday, Nicolla turned to crafting as a way to cope with grief. Inspired by his final words—”keep going as long as it makes you happy”—she founded Forever Halo Designs. Almost five years on, she channels his values of love, kindness, and selflessness into bespoke wedding and event pieces. With a calm presence and eye for luxury detail, Nicolla creates timeless, heartfelt designs that enhance every celebration with meaning and beauty.
Rhiannon Dineen	Rhiannon Dineen leads with lived experience, transforming personal struggle into strength. Through Communities Against Violence (CIC), she supports young people affected by violence, exploitation, and offending. Her work saves lives, empowers communities, and creates real change. A fearless advocate, she challenges systems and stigma, pushing for a compassionate, trauma-informed approach to justice. Rhiannon’s bold, disruptive leadership is both vital and inspiring.
Sandra Chambers	Parents are hardworking and skilled business owners, and great, lovely people. They serve as excellent role models for young people.
Shovon Stephanie Wiggan	Shovon embodies resilience and impact. From growing up in foster care to becoming a respected educator, mentor, and businesswoman, she’s turned her journey into a source of inspiration for others. Through her work with Birmingham City and Aston University, she empowers young people to aim higher. Her business furthers this mission by creating opportunities and uplifting communities. Shovon’s story sparks change—vote for her to honour perseverance and the power of giving back.
Shyheim Prince	Shyheim founded High Living Estates at 22 and grew it into a million-pound business with 9 staff and 200+ five-star reviews. His company helps first-time and seasoned investors build generational wealth through property. Coming from a non-business background, Shy’s journey inspires young Black entrepreneurs. His goal is to make HLE a billion-pound, household name and to motivate others—especially the youth—to invest wisely and create a brighter, financially secure future.
Sirayah Shiraz	Sirayah is a Jamaican-Egyptian young woman who has broken through in sports journalism, a field often dominated by men, and she is absolutely smashing it. She has achieved this largely on her own and truly deserves this opportunity. Sirayah is inspiring because she dreamed it and is now living it. She champions women’s football and is a powerful voice for mixed-race women.
Susuana Gyampoh Senghor	Suzy is an award-winning youth advocate dedicated to tackling youth violence and creating brighter futures. She led the national youth inquiry Our Generation’s Epidemic: Knife Crime, championing a public health approach to crime. As a safeguarding advisor, youth rep on the Safer Slough Partnership Board, and Co-Chair of the Youth Advisory Board, Suzy empowers young voices and drives systemic change to prevent violence and support youth potential.

Role Model of the Year Nominees

Bamidele Farinre	Bamidele Farinre is a visionary and changemaker, advocating for equity in STEM. Despite being told at 17 that she lacked the “head for science,” she overcame all limitations. Today, she’s a multi-award-winning biomedical scientist, agile project manager, author, and founder of BAMS Space: No Ceiling—platforms uplifting Black voices and diverse talents in STEM. Bamidele’s humility, tenacity, and leadership inspire others, proving that purpose and perseverance can break barriers and build opportunities.
Big Manny	Big Manny, TikTok’s Education Creator of the Year, has made a major impact in edutainment. His debut book, Science Is Lit: Crazy Chemistry and Epic Experiments, brings science into homes and classrooms. He’s collaborated with Prince William, NatureMetrics, and brands like BMW, and appeared on platforms such as This Morning and Blue Peter. With his relatable language and warm personality, Manny makes science accessible and relevant, inspiring diverse audiences. He’s an educator, innovator, and role model.
Carley Luckett	Vote for Carley, a rare combination of integrity, initiative, and compassion. As Vice Chair of the Black Law Network, she empowers aspiring Black legal professionals and leads impactful initiatives, like a financial literacy masterclass with Wealthbrite. Carley uses her platform to educate and raise awareness about the challenges facing young people. Her calm confidence, professionalism, and kindness inspire those around her. She doesn’t just lead—she lifts and is already changing lives.
Casey Bailey	Casey Bailey embodies how creativity and community can drive real change. Through spoken word, theatre, and youth work, he connects with diverse audiences, breaking barriers and inspiring conversation. Tireless in his efforts, Casey uplifts underrepresented voices and supports young people. A true role model, he lives the change he advocates, making a powerful impact without seeking the spotlight.
Colin Mills	Vote for Colin Mills, a humble and kind individual who has dedicated decades to his craft. Despite facing personal challenges, he’s delivered fantastic entertainment, including performing in a boyband, appearing on Stars in Their Eyes, and writing songs still played today. Colin’s hard work, support for others, and dedication to his craft deserve recognition. His amazing talents often go unnoticed, and he truly deserves to be recognized as a hardworking, kind, and talented role model.
Daniella Blechner	Danni is dedicated to helping others connect with their identities and dreams through workshops that nurture talent and creativity. Growing up without seeing characters like her, she’s focused on changing the narrative. With 15 years of experience as an English teacher, she also runs a publishing and mentoring company, and mentors young people who’ve fallen through the cracks. Diagnosed with autism, Danni uses her experience to support those with special educational needs and works with underrepresented authors.
Dawn Brathwaite	Dawn consistently gives of herself, her time, and her gifts for the benefit of others. She embodies a strong work ethic, resilience, and selflessness in every aspect of her life. As a role model, she demonstrates kindness, integrity, and good citizenship, inspiring those around her. Christopher Grandison	CI Christopher Grandison is an operational force incident manager, chief inspector and chair of the black and Asian police association for WMP. CI Grandison is a key ally who takes pride in his role of protecting and serving the WMP community. CI Grandison leads from the front and is a highly respected leader. He had helped develop and mentor numerous officers and staff during numerous promotion processes. As the lead of BAPA, CI Grandison has used his skills to improve the strategic direction of the association, leading change whilst using the skills and knowledge of the committee members.
Claudine Bongo	Claudine Bongo is a trailblazer in community-driven economic regeneration. She creates sustainable pathways for entrepreneurs often overlooked by mainstream systems, fostering collaborations between grassroots businesses and corporations. Gersi Istrefi	He deserves this award for his remarkable resilience and contributions despite facing a difficult asylum process as an Albanian man. While navigating these challenges, he has been involved in two research projects supporting migrants in the UK, served as a student executive in college, and actively contributed to various organisations. He advocates tirelessly for safety in Croydon, raises voices in parliament for the voiceless, and fights for the rights and humane treatment of migrants.
Jamie Dennis	Jamie supports men/boys often overlooked – those who are told they’ll “never amount to anything”. Mandem Meetup supports men in prisons, on the streets, and in the community through practical, financial, educational, emotional, spiritual, and fitness help. With minimal funding, they’ve made a big impact in Manchester and Wolverhampton, and their reach is growing. More recognition and support will help Mandem Meetup continue to grow and change even more lives.
Jennifer Jones-Rigby	Jennifer is CEO of Bethel Health & Healing Network, a Birmingham Christian charity supporting Doula champions aiding pregnant refugee women and those with low-level mental health issues. Marsha Powell	Marsha Powell is transforming the lives of Black and Brown girls by creating access to spaces where they are often invisible. Through her visionary leadership and powerful network, Marsha is opening doors to opportunities that empower not just the girls but their families too, breaking cycles of generational and socio-economic inequality. Her work uplifts underrepresented voices, challenges systemic barriers, and ensures that young women from marginalised backgrounds are seen, heard, and supported to thrive.
Melanin Moods	They are qualified mental health professionals who are committed to ensuring that marginalised and racialised communities can access mental health support in a way that they can relate to. They work with the community and within the community, providing specialised, clinical education in innovative ways. Their ‘Barbershop Chronicles’ has been recognised both locally and nationally and is creating a space for black men to talk openly about their mental health, whilst getting the professional expertise to navigate their experiences.
Rachael Reign	Rachael Reign is the UK’s leading voice in spiritual and cultic abuse advocacy. As founder of Surviving Universal UK, she’s built a groundbreaking, survivor-led platform supporting those impacted by spiritual and high-control group abuse. Terri-Louise Brown	Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis nine years ago, she created a Big Brother/Big Sister platform for sharing journeys and finding support. In 2024, she launched The Empowerment Awards to honour disability community trailblazers often overlooked. She co-leads one of only two Black-led MS charities in the UK. Despite her struggles, she actively supports her community, and her awards were the first UK disability event to recognise people with additional needs and assistance dogs.
The Shia Family	The Shia Family is a powerful and meaningful foundation that has already had such a profound impact on those they seek to support. The journey of becoming has been painful, but it has truly been purposeful, in helping not only Chynna, the founder, but other grieving parents and their families in supporting them in their pain too.
